1. Visit Suomenlinna Sea Fortress

Suomenlinna Fortress is a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its impressive portrayal of European military architecture. It is is one of the largest sea fortresses in the world. Entrance is free, but you’ll have to pay for the ferry to go to the island.

2. Walk around the Töölö Bay

Töölö bay is only 5 minutes away from the main railway station. The walk around the bay is 2 kilometers. There’s many beautiful buildings: old villas, Music Hall, Finlandia Hall, Opera House, Olympic Stadium, Central Libraty Oodi.

3. Visit Helsinki Cathedral and Senate Square


Senate Square displays the unique Neoclassical architecture among the buildings. Entrance to Helsinki Cathedral is free. At the Senate Square you will also see the Government Palace, the National Library of Finland, and the University of Helsinki.

5. Seurasaari Open Air Museum

Oodi is a modern library, with a stylish Nordic architecture and a wide range of unique facilities. There’s also a cafe and a movie theatre.

7. Market Square

Market Square features stalls and shops selling everything from traditional Finnish delights and freshly caught fish to handicrafts and flowers.

8. Uspenski Cathedral

Uspenski Cathedral is a beautiful Orthodox church built in the Russian Byzantine style. There is also a museum dedicated to the history of the church.

9. Walk in Kaivopuisto park

Kaivopuisto is one of the city’s oldest and most famous parks. There is a beautiful garden and there are cafes on the seashore. There are also embassies in Kaivopuisto area.

10. Check out the statues
